The Finger Lakes is experiencing a great deal of growth as a dining destination. A lot of the recent attention has been focused on Geneva, but there are restaurants of all kinds opening everywhere including just down the road in Waterloo. West Main Kitchen has become a popular destination, especially for breakfast. Now, the team behind that restaurant has opened their new concept, Stan’s Waterloo. Brendan Spiro describes it as modern tavern cuisine that takes advantage of the abundant agricultural resources in the region.

USA Today’s annual 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards to choose the best new restaurant in America closes at Noon today. A Finger Lakes restaurant has consistently led the voting.

As Christopher Bates prepped dinner for the first seating at FLX Table in Geneva on Friday afternoon, he said even being included in the contest was something of a surprise.

A recent article in Rochester’s Democrat and Chronicle is just the latest signal that Geneva is developing a big reputation in the region as a culinary destination. Many of the restaurants in Geneva take advantage of the Finger Lakes’ agricultural bounty. When you sit down to a meal, you’re often no far from where some of the ingredients were grown. At four local restaurants, you might be dining on produce that was grown by the chef who prepared it.
