"In the Hall of the Mountain King", an orchestral piece written in 1875, tells the story of the dream-like fantasy of the title character standing in front the Mountain King with a great crowd of trolls, gnommes, and goblins. Then there is a tremendous uproar in the hall as the first lines are sung. "Slay him! The Christian man's son has seduced the fairest maid of the Mountain King! Slay him! Slay him!"

The Smith Opera House in downtown Geneva is going to undertake some important renovations in the coming year. Executive Director Susie Monagan says these are important improvements in the 123-year-old space even if they won’t be immediately apparent to audiences.

The Geneva Theatre Guild presents their summer musical at The Smith Opera House August 3rd through 6th. It’s a stage adaptation of a much loved film. Mel Brooks adapted his 1974 comedy Young Frankenstein in 2007 and Steve DuPrey has wanted to direct it ever since.
